The Children of Pietro Napolitano

Napolitano coat of armsDuring his two marriages Pietro had 14 children. This page will highlight what I know about some of his children. Not all of his children will be mentioned on this page, only the children I have further information on. To see a list of all of the children of Pietro Napolitano, go to Pietro's page here. This page will highlight the children of Pietro and his first wife Carolina Chimenti.

Alfonso Napolitano

Alfonso Napolitano was born to Pietro Napolitano and Carolina Chimenti on 2 September 1853 in Montalto Uffugo. At the age of 26 Alfonso married Maria Mantuano in 1878. A copy of his marriage bann can be viewed here. This marriage bann shows that Alfonso was a property owner, age 26 and he was the son of Pietro who was 51 years old at the time of this document and his mother was the deceased Carolina Chimenti whose profession (while living) was "Civile" or property owner. The information for Alfonso's wife lists her full name as Maria Arcangela Mantuano, age 20, who had never been married before. Her parents are listed as the late Rosario Mantuano, who lived in Montalto during his life and was a "bracciale" or laborer by profession while living. Her mother was Luisa Stella, "contadina" or farmer by profession and she was living in Montalto at the time this document was written. During their marriage Alfonso and Maria had 9 children which included a set of twins. Three of these children were born and baptised in Argentina. From the baptism records in Argentina and the birth records of Montalto Uffugo, we know that in 1879 when their first child was born in Montalto Uffugo, the family was living in Montalto Uffugo. Sometime before the birth of their second child named Anselmo the family left Montalto and was living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The baptism of Anselmo occurred on 27 November 1883 in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. The baptism records of their next 2 children in Argentina are quite confusing. Juan Napolitano listed as the son of Alfonso Napolitano and Maria Mantuano was baptised in Buenos Aires on 24 Jun 1886. Vicente Napolitano who was listed as the son of Alfonso Napolitano and Maria Montoano, was baptised in Balvanera, Distrito Federal, Argentina on 14 March 1886. It is clear that these children had the same parents, however, how or why they were baptised 3 months apart is a mystery to me. In 1888 Alfonso and Maria had a daughter named Carolina. The birth of all their other children after Carolina occurred in Montalto Uffugo. It is unknown if anyone from this family ever returned to Argentina.

Listed below are the 9 children of Alfonso and Maria.

Fiore Napolitano and Carolina Grano

Fiore Napolitano was born in Montalto Uffugo on 3 April 1857 to Pietro Napolitano and Carolina Chimenti. In 1878 Fiore Napolitano married Carolina Grano in Lattarico, a town not far from Montalto. Carolina was born and living in Lattarico until she married Fiore. A copy of their marriage banns filed with the state civil office in Montalto Uffugo can be seen here.

This record states that Fiore was 21 years old, never married before and his profession was a shoemaker. He was living in the Vaccarizzo section of Montalto Uffugo during this time period. The document states he was the son of Pietro, a property owner, and the deceased Carolina Chimenti whose profession was listed as "filatrice" or cloth spinner. Carolina Grano is listed in the document as single (never married before), age 19, born in Lattarico and having the profession of "filatrice" (cloth spinner). She was the daughter of Giuseppe Grano, property owner and Maddalena Belvedere also a "filatrice". Both her parents were living in Lattarico and the marriage took place there.

The children of Fiore Napolitano and Carolina Grano are listed below.

The eldest son of Fiore and Carolina, Francesco Saverio married Maria Pettinati in 1900. Maria was also born in Lattarico and their wedding took place there. A copy of their marriage bann can be viewed here. This record states that Francesco Saverio, profession shoemaker, age 20, born in Lattarico and living in Montalto Uffugo was the son of Fiore Napolitano, a shoemaker and a resident of Montalto Uffugo, and Carolina Grano, a filatrice, living in Montalto Uffugo. Regarding Maria Pettinati, the record states she was born in Lattarico and a resident there, 16 years old, and the daughter of the deceased Antonio Pettinati, a farmer when he was living and Aluisa Scavello a farmer by profession and living in Lattarico. The marriage banns were posted in the town halls of both Lattarico and Montalto Uffugo for 3 consecutive weeks (as required by law during this time) before the marriage took place in Lattarico. Francesco Saverio and Maria Pettinati had 2 children that I found birth records for in Montalto Uffugo. In 1907 they had a son named Giuseppe and in 1910 they had a daughter named Carolina Concetta Camilla.

Fedele Fortunato Napolitano and Rosaria Bruno

Fedele Fortunato Napolitano was born on 13 December 1858 to Pietro Napolitano and Carolina Chimenti. In 1877 he married Rosaria Bruno. A copy of their marriage bann can be seen here. This record lists the 18 year old Fidele's profession as "industrialante" which would translate to a manufacterer or trader. Rosaria Bruno was the daughter of Michele and Rosa Lucchetta. Fedele and Rosaria had 11 children together and similar to his brother Alfonso, one of his children was born in Argentina in 1886 but the same child died in 1887 in Montalto Uffugo. Fedele did not stay long in Argentina. The rest of his children were born in Montalto Uffugo. The final record I have for this family is the death record in 1901 of their baby son (a twin) named Achille in Montalto Uffugo. I am not sure if Fedele and Rosaria returned to Argentina or not, however, at least one of their children settled there permanently.

The Children of Fedele and Rosaria are:

Maria Rosa Napolitano and Giovanni Garrafa

Maria Rosa Napolitano was born to Pietro Napolitano and Carolina Chimenti in October 1864. In August 1881 she married Giovanni Garrafa. Giovanni was the son of Giuseppe Garrafa and Carolina Mele. The grandparents of Giovanni were Saverio Garrafa and Maria Napolitano. You can read about them here. Giovanni and Maria Rosa had 8 children. They are listed below.
