Welcome To Montalto Uffugo.net

Updated January 28, 2008

Welcome to the new home of Montalto Uffugo.Net. This site is dedicated to the people and the descendants of people from Montalto Uffugo past and present.

Giuseppe NapolitanoMy grandfather, Giuseppe Napolitano, was born in Montalto Uffugo in 1892. He came to Chicago and began a new life here in the United States. He spoke of the town and the place he came from fondly but his children did not pay much attention. He rarely spoke of the family he left behind. Giuseppe, still in his fifties, died in 1949. With him died the knowledge of his life and family in the place of his birth. His first 20 years and all the family history and stories have been lost to my family. I began my journey 10 years ago to discover our heritage and perhaps return knowledge of long lost family to my family. I seek pictures and stories of a family and an era long lost to time.

Please note: This is not an official site and is not connected in any way to the actual town of Montalto Uffugo. These pages have been created by the owner to help me understand my genealogy and learn more about the lives of my ancestors.

What you will find on this site

What Is Here?

Piazza BiancoOn these pages you will find the birth, marriage and death records of Montalto Uffugo. Since I am still copying these records and transcribing them, you will find that more is missing than is here, but if you have patience, I will have everything up here eventually. Also on these pages you will also see many different family pages. Families that once lived in Montalto Uffugo and some that still do. Immigration out of the town will also be explored. I am still working on the histry of Montalto Uffugo.

Montalto Uffugo is located in Cosenza Province in Calabria. Other neighboring towns are San Fili, San Vincenzo La Costa, Rende, Paola, San Benedetto Ullano and Fuscaldo.

This site will contain a lot of information. I have tried to organize this site into the following sections:

Navigating this site

There is a lot of information on this site. I have tried to make it easy to navigate. Once you know how I have organized this site, it should be simple. You will see a navigation bar to your right of each page. Each page may have a different navigation bar with different links that pertain to the page you are viewing. You will also notice a navigation bar at the top of each page. That bar will always have a link back here (home) so if you get lost just return here. The people pages will have information about specific surnames that relate to my family and some other families that have contacted me through this website. I have been in contact with many people from the old webpages and have gathered pictures and information from them. You will see them on the Zingone and Garrafa pages. I will be adding more soon. I could not have done this without...

I would like to thank Nuccia from Gente di Mare. Without her help, instruction and infinite patience I could not have done this site. Visit Nuccia's forum here and her webpages here.

I would also like to thank James from The Carini Exchange. Without his awesome site on Carini, Sicily, I would not have thought this possible and never would have tried. Visit his site on Carini here. His encouragement, friendship and support have helped to make this site better and meant a lot to me.

Picture credits: I must thank Angie Verri Filipowicz for her kind permission to use some of her pictures on this site.

Thanks also go to David Ayoub for some of his photographs on this site. Their photo credits are located on each page. The copyrights belong to them. So no stealing without their permission!
